On April 15, Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers became the first modern day black player to play in the major leagues.
On April 27, Babe Ruth day was celebrated at every MLB stadium; Ruth made an appearance at Yankee Stadium and despite having cancer, Babe said "The only real game I think in the world is baseball".
