The 1977 Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Tournament was held March 4–5 at the ISU Minidome at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.[1]
Top-seeded Idaho State defeated Weber State in the championship game, 61–55, to clinch their first Big Sky men's basketball tournament.
The Bengals, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1977 NCAA Tournament. Idaho State would go on to defeat Long Beach State and UCLA in the first two rounds, en route to the Elite Eight, where they ultimately lost to UNLV.
Format
Even though the Big Sky contained eight members, only the top four teams from the standings took part in the tournament field. As such, two teams, Montana State and Gonzaga, made their first appearances in the tournament.
The tournament was again held at the home court of the conference's regular season champion.
