2003 Football League Second Division play-off Final
The 2003 Football League Second Division play-off Final was a football match played at Millennium Stadium on 25 May 2003, at the end of the 2002–03 season. It was the 17th play-off final in all at the third level of English football. The match determined the third and final team to gain promotion from Division Two to Division One, and was contested by Queens Park Rangers, who had finished fourth during the league season, and Cardiff City, who had finished sixth. Andy Campbell scored the only goal of the game in extra time to give Cardiff a 1-0 victory.[1]
Route to the final
Queens Park Rangers finished the 2002–03 season in fourth place, two places ahead of Cardiff City who secured their play-off place by just one point over Tranmere Rovers. In the Play-off semi-finals Queens Park Rangers progressed with a 2-1 aggregate win over fifth placed side Oldham Athletic[2] and Cardiff City beat Severnside rivals Bristol City 1-0 on aggregate.[3]
