66 Ophiuchi is a class B2Ve[3] (blue main-sequence) star in the constellation Ophiuchus. Its apparent magnitude is 4.60[2] and it is approximately 650 light years away based on parallax.[1]
It is a γ Cas variable, a shell star with a circumstellar disc of gas and irregular changes in brightness, ranging from 4.85 to 4.55 magnitude.[4] A companion at separation 0.1" and magnitude 6.5 has been reported.[11]
