AbanteCart is a New Jersey-based e-commerce technology and business solution provider. It is a free open source electronic commerce application and community based project.[1] The AbanteCart platform is a full-featured, customizable retail solution, designed to meet the requirements of online retailers and their customers. AbanteCart is licensed under the Open Software License (OSL) and it’s foundation is based on PHP and MySQL database.[2]
History
AbanteCart was founded by developer and architect Pavel Rojkov, and development started in Edgewater, New Jersey in 2010. AbanteCart was released to the public in November 2011.
AbanteCart’s free online platform was created to maximize opportunities for catalogers, retailers, direct marketers, and manufacturers. [3]
May 2013, AbanteCart introduced change in its e-commerce platform. The changes were focused on providing a responsive storefront design.[4][5]
May 2014, AbanteCart announce creation of marketplace to allow developers publish plugins or extensions.[6]
December 2014, AbanteCart releases 100% mobile solution with support of mobile devices for storefront and admin.[7]
Product
AbanteCart is a free web-based e-commerce application. It allows businesses to create a custom shopping cart storefront and retail product online.[8]
The AbanteCart e-commerce platform has a user interface that features an administrative e-commerce tools, which clients can use to manage their online stores. Administrative tools have a sophisticated and efficient User interface for website customization. E-commece merchants can first visit the AbanteCart website and download a free copy of application. AbanteCart supports multi-language stores with multi-currency pricing options, and provides RESTful APIs for storefront as well as multiple shipping and payment interfaces, such as FedEx, UPS and USPS. It integrates to Authorize.Net, PayPal and many other providers in its payments system. Application can be hosted by most hosting providers [9]
Advantages and Disadvantages
The main advantage of the AbanteCart is its price. Since the software is free, it can be gotten by anybody who wishes to use it. AbanteCart comes with search engine optimization capabilities. It is secure because of the established security infrastructure which makes it possible for buyers to interact with a businessman's web store. There are no limits on the number of items that one can sell through one's AbanteCart web store. That makes it an ideal fit for small and medium-sized businesses.
The disadvantages of usin the AbanteCart includes the absence of traffic analytics, integration with Google Analytics, bulk image upload provided, and no integration with Facebook and Twitter. Also, not all payment gateways are supported.[10]
