Albertus Magnus Academy is an online, virtual school of argumentation and debate for Catholic homeschooled students in grades 8-12 who live in the geographic area of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte (western North Carolina) and Upstate South Carolina.

History

The academy was originally founded in 2009 as the Albertus Magnus Debate Club by John Walker, a member of St. Gabriel parish in Charlotte, NC. In 2010, it was incorporated as the Albertus Magnus Academy.[1]

The academy offers a single distance learning course, Argumentation and Debate for Catholics, which includes:

Extracurricular activities

The academy's debate team competes at tournaments hosted by traditional schools along the I-85 Corridor in western Carolina. It has also competed at the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament.[2] The academy is a member of the Carolina West district[3] of the National Forensic League,[4] the Tarheel Forensic League,[5] and the CFL of Charlotte[6] (district for the National Catholic Forensic League).
