Alexandru "Sandu" Neagu (19 July 1948 – 17 April 2010) was a Romanian footballer.[1]
Career
He made his debut in 1965 and two years later he won the national championship (the second in Rapid's history).[2] He won the Romanian Cup twice in 1972 and 1975.[3] In the summer of 1978 he announced his retirement from professional football.[4]
Neagu played his entire career for Rapid Bucureşti. He played 286 games scoring 110 goals.[5]
International career
Neague debuted for the Romania national football team in February 1970 in a 1-1 draw against Peru. In his second international cap, a 1-1 draw against West Germany, he scored his first international goal.[6] He earned 17 caps for the Romania national football team[7] and participated in the 1970 FIFA World Cup.[8]
Death
Neagu died on 17 April 2010, at age 61 in a Bucharest hospital.[9]
