Altenwerder (Northern Low Saxon: Oolwarder) is a quarter in the Harburg borough of the Free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg in northern Germany. In the 1970s the city of Hamburg announced the formal dispossession of all property to build the Container Terminal Altenwerder. The terminal started its operation in 2003. Altenwerder is a quarter almost without population. In 2007 the population was 2.

History

Around 1418 the settlement was newly dyked, because of a treaty between the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Johann Slamsdorp, the Prince-Archbishop of Bremen, both local lords to the settlement.

Geography

In 2006 according to the statistical office of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, the quarter Altenwerder has a total area of 6.8 km². In the North is the quarter Waltershof of the borough Hamburg-Mitte, in the east is the quarter Wilhelmsburg. Alternwerder borders in the South to Moorburg and in the West to Francop.

Demographics

In 2006 in the quarter Altenwerder were living 2 people.[1]

In 1999 there were 18 households out of which 11.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them and 83.3% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 1.44.[2]
