The Arizona Hawks are an Amateur Athletic Union-sanctioned Tier II junior ice hockey team based out of Peoria, Arizona. Their host facility is AZ Ice Peoria, which is located next to the Peoria Sports Complex that is the spring training home of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball.[1] The team is a member of the Western States Hockey League in the Western Division for the current season. The team joined the league as an expansion team to start in the 2009–10 season.[2]
Head coach Andrew Tufto is the first former WSHL player to become a head coach in the league.[3]
The players, ages 16–20, carry amateur status under Junior A guidelines and hope to earn a spot on higher levels of junior ice hockey in the United States and Canada, Canadian Major Junior, Collegiate, and eventually professional teams.
