Attymass (Irish: Áth Tí an Mheasaigh)[1] is a village in County Mayo, Ireland.

People

It is the birthplace of Fr. Patrick Peyton (1909–1992), the founder of the Family Rosary Crusade In 1998, the Fr. Patrick Peyton Memorial Centre was officially opened by Bishop Thomas Flynn.[2]

As part of The Gathering 2013, Attymass Gathering took place on 1–8 August 2013.

Moy Villa Football Club

The club were promoted from Division Two on the last day of the 2009 season, with a 9-0 drubbing of Snugboro United B. Two Moy Villa players (John Judge & John Durkan) were named in the Mayo League Division Two Team of the Year for 2009 and the pair were also named in the Division One Team of the Year for 2010.

There was also a Moy Villa "B" team, who made their league debut in 2010, losing 1-0 to Crossmolina B, and would be playing in League Two of the Mayo League in 2012. The squad included Aubrey Mulherin, Chris Moore, Sean Garvin & Jason Gilmartin. Moy Villa "B" reached the Semi-Finals of the McHale Agri Stores Divisional Cup in 2010, losing to Ballina United 4-0 and exited the First Round of the Connacht Gold Cup, losing 4-2 away to Ballyhaunis Town. In 2011, Moy Villa B were narrowly relegated from Mayo League Two, only to learn that they would stay in the League, after a number of teams pulled out of the 2012 season, after achieving promotion from Division Three a year previously. They reached the semi-finals of the McDonnell Cup in 2011, losing to Ballyhaunis Town.

The Mayo League presented Moy Villa with 3rd prize in Mayo Club of the year awards for season 2006. In addition Moy Villa received the 'Club of the Month' award for July 2006, and most recently won the Monthly Award in July 2012.

The current club committee consists of Tony Gallagher (Club Chairman), Sean Garvin (Public Relations Officer & Treasurer), and Martin Kielty (Secretary). Martin Kielty was awarded the Mayo League's 2009 Club Secretary of the Year Award[4]

On 1 July 2010, Moy Villa defeated Mulranny United 2-1 after extra time, to reach the final of the Tonra Cup. On Sunday 18 July 2010, Moy Villa defeated Killala 8-7 on penalties in the Tonra Cup Final in Milebush Park, Castlebar after the game finished 1-1 after extra time.[5]

Moy Villa finished 3rd place in Mayo League Premier B in 2011, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion to Castlebar Celtic B, despite beating Premier B Champions, Bangor Hibs 6-5 in Attymass, on the final day of the season. On 9 September 2012, Moy Villa finally achieved promotion to Premier A of the Mayo League, despite losing 3-2 to Charlestown Athletic. They won the Premier B Championship after a 1-1 draw away to Killala, which was enough to finish off a fine season, after winning the Tuohy Divisional Cup in July. In late 2013, Moy Villa reached the Elvery's Sports Super League for the first time in the clubs history. A highlight of the season was a 2-1 win away to Castlebar Celtic but ultimately the club were relegated after only one season after a 3-1 loss to Ballina Town. As of 2015, they are currently competing in Mayo League Premier A.

In October 2012. Moy Villa launched their Mobile Smartphone App, in the process becoming the first Mayo League side to release a Smartphone App. The App was designed and created by the club's PRO, Sean Garvin, with the hope that it will attract significant interest and add another online dimension along with the advent of Facebook and Twitter.[6][7]

In recent years a number of Moy Villa players and members have been honoured at Mayo League Events. In 2009, Martin Kielty was awarded Secretary of the Year. In 2012, Tony Gallagher, who took charge of the club's inaugural season in 1992 and later became Chairman, was awarded a place in the Mayo League Hall of Fame. Moy Villa players John Durkan, Kevin Langdon, John Judge & Johnny Morrell to name a few, have all been named in Teams of the Year and Sean Garvin was awarded the Special Media Award in 2014 after developing and launching the Mayo Football League App. In addition, in July 2015, he was also awarded the FAI Communications Award for Best Website for his work with the app.
