Axel Hamberg

Axel Hamberg (17 January 1863 28 June 1933) was a Swedish mineralogist, geographer, explorer and professor in geography at the University of Uppsala 1907-1928. The Spitsbergen glacier Hambergbreen is named after him,[1] as is the Bjørnøya mountain of Hambergfjellet,[2] and also the Hamberg Glacier of South Georgia.[3]

The mineral hambergite is named after him.[4]

He was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1905.
