Beth Bernstein was born and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of Carol and Isadore Bernstein, both of whom are deceased. Her father was an attorney and her mother graduated from NYU and Columbia University with a masters in English. Beth is the 5th of 6 children. She has an identical twin sister, Anne Bernstein, who is a physician. After graduating from Richland Northeast High School, Beth attended the University of Georgia graduating in 1991. She later earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1994. After law school, she began practicing law with her father and brother, Lowell Bernstein.
In 2003, Beth married Knowlton "Rip" Sanders, who is an attorney and they practice law together. They have two daughters, Caroline, 12, and Isabel, 8.
In 2012, Beth successfully ran for the South Carolina House of Representatives House District 78, being the only Democratic who beat a Republican in the South Carolina House of Representatives that year.
Bernstein is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, serving since November 2012. Bernstein is also a partner with Bernstein and Bernstein Attorneys at Law www.bblawsc.com.[1]
