Bill Duffy (basketball)

Bill Duffy is an American sports agent representing players in the National Basketball Association.

Life and career

Duffy is a former basketball player, and played basketball at Santa Clara University. He was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the fifth round[1] of the 1982 NBA Draft (the team's fourth pick that year).[2]

His BDA Sports Management company represents stars such as Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Joakim Noah, Klay Thompson, Rajon Rondo, Mike Conley Jr., Jahlil Okafor, Stanley Johnson, and Andrew Wiggins, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry. [3][4][5][6]

In 2003, Duffy's firm famously failed to notify the Miami Heat that his client Anthony Carter wished to exercise a $4.1 million player option on his contract by the deadline.[7][8][9] The failure allowed the team to renounced their rights to Carter, opening up cap space that was later used to sign Lamar Odom.[8] Duffy agreed to make up the lost wages to Carter, and, as of 2016, continued to make regular installments to Carter.[8]
