Carlos Villanueva Magdaluyo (May 20, 1921 in Pasay City, Philippines - 1995) is a Filipino businessman. He was the director of PAGCOR.

Early life and education

Little is known for his ancestry and early life. But, he is of Aklanon descent. The name Magdaluyo came from Kalibo, Aklan.

He graduated from BS Business Administrator at Far Eastern University – Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance.

Business career

He was employed as cashier and slowly assumed other administrative and gaming responsibilities to become one of the pillars of PAGCOR. He started the gambling business in 1946 as a cashier in a casino in Manila.

After Martial Law was declared by President Ferdinand Marcos on September 21, 1972, Carlos decided to live a simple life with his kids. After the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, Carlos assumed the position of Vice President for Operations of the revived PAGCOR, and became the heart and soul of moving the nationalized gambling industry in the country. Carlos, together with his Son Raymundo has for so many decades been moving for the legalization of casinos in the Philippines. Together with Murray Hertz, their group even introduced the world of casino operations to the Koreans, setting up shop in Inchon in the 1960s.

Death

He celebrated his 74th birthday on May 20, 1995 in Batangas. Later that year, he died of diabetes at the age of 74.

Legacy

His grandson, Raymund Magdaluyo, together with his cousins opened Patio Carlito—a tribute for their grandfather.[1]

Patio Carlito is similar to Abe (a tribute restaurant focused on old Kapampangan cuisine), except that it has a 1960s feel. It competes directly with Mario's for group dining and the Sunday family buffet crowd. It is a good alternative to the best Filipino restos in the area—Bagoong Club and Romulo Cafe—and would make a nice venue for a get-together with balikbayans.
