Chalk N Dust

Chalk N Dust is a chain of model learning centers on a mission to provide quality, accessible and affordable education by integrating pedagogy and technology.[1] It's an initiative by Indian Institute Of Technology Kharagpur,[2] and Indian Institutes of Management graduates to change the Indian education system as well as think of a radical mix of pedagogy and technology to increase the learning outcomes.

In the ASER Survey of 2014, Ambrish Dongre says that "attending private tuition has a large positive effect on test scores of math and language (separately or combined) for students in the age-group of 6-14 years. The effect is as large as an additional year of education or the effect of attending a private school instead of a government school. Interestingly, tuitions are more beneficial for children who are more disadvantaged, and have lower learning levels. For example, the effect of tuition is almost twice as high for children enrolled in government schools, compared to those who are enrolled in private schools. Similarly, children whose parents are less educated or children who stay in non-pucca households benefit more from tuitions. We also analyse the effect of tuition on test scores separately of 6-10 year old children. The results remain unchanged."[3]

Chalk N Duster is a movie which presents the scenario that how teachers in India are underpaid and how school education needs a drastic reform[4]

Chalk N Dust aims to provide Learning Management Solutions such as Moodle,[5] animated contents to make learning fun and exciting as well as plans to reach to rural and semi rural students by connecting quality teachers and availing quality materials using personalized solutions because the digital penetration is increasing in India.[6] The main focus of Chalk N Dust is to increase learning outcomes as well as change the attitude of students, teachers and parents about education as a key to leading an evolved life through critical thinking and not just as means to crack opportunities and get employment.

The concept of Gamification is to be widely used in the future of education and several case studies have proved that how it makes the learning process fun, competitive, stress free and engaging.[7] Gamification as well as group engagement and attitude shift are the key focus of Chalk N Dust which aims to disrupt the application of this concept in education.
