Charlotte Holmes

Charlotte Louise Holmes (born 29 September 1988) is an English commercial model and TV presenter, who was crowned Miss England on 26 June 2012^[1] and went on to place 8th at Miss World. She placed fourth in Sky Livings 'Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model' (series 6), in 2010 hosted by Elle Macpherson .

Biography

Charlotte was born at Queen Charlottes Hospital in Hammersmith on 29 September 1988 to parents Kenneth and Yvonne Holmes. She moved with her parents to Torpoint, Cornwall where she grew up. Charlotte attended Torpoint Junior School then crossed the border to Devon in her later years to study at Devonport High School for Girls in Plymouth where she went on to gain ten GCSE's all A*-B and four A-Levels in Biology, French, Chemistry and General Studies. She controversially pulled out from her place at Cardiff University studying Physiotherapy, before she started, to move to London and pursue a dream career in the modeling industry. Charlotte has one sister, Lucy (born 8 March 1991), who studies International Business Studies with Spanish at Liverpool John Moores University. She is currently living in Barcelona and studied there for her erasmus year.

Achievements

In June 2007, Charlotte won The Face of Plymouth, which is a local based competition, ran by The Plymouth Herald. She spent the year representing Plymouth and the paper at various city based charity and media events; this spurred her love for the media industry. She went on to judge the competition in 2009 and host it in 2010.

Charlotte was crowned Miss Cornwall in March 2009. This was her first experience of the Miss England competition, and she went on to finish fourth at the national final. That year, Rachel Christie was crowned Miss England but was forced into retirement and England was represented well at Miss World by Katrina Hodge later that year.

In 2010 Charlotte appeared on Sky Living's Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model, hosted by Elle Macpherson, where she finished in fourth place. She was championed by Macpherson from the start and was quickly dubbed 'Baby Elle', much to the dislike of fellow competitors who said it was fixed for her to win. When she was eliminated from the series the show website temporarily shut down due to a huge influx of complaints. The series went on to see Tiffany Pisani crowned the winner. Charlotte went on to host the live presenting at Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model LIVE at ExCel in London and appear in a 'what they did next' episode of the 2012 series of the show.

As her third and final attempt in the Miss England competition, Charlotte competed at Miss London in February 2012 where she was crowned Miss Charity, after raising £1500 for The Thai Children's Trust, but was pipped to the actual title by Katie Price winner, Amy Willerton. Charlotte went back to her southern roots and competed at Miss Devon in May 2012, and won.

On Tuesday 26 June 2012, Charlotte was crowned Miss England, at the Athena in Leicester. She was also crowned Miss Front Top Model, by The Front Academy.

Charlotte spent six weeks competing at the Miss World competition in China, she visited Shanghai, Beijing and represented England at the final on Saturday 18 August 2012 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. She placed 8th and was also a finalist in the Charity, Top Model and Sports rounds. She won the long jump competition, jumping 4.40 meters, came second in the 100m sprint, and was the fastest member in her 4 × 100 m relay team.

Charity

Charlotte has been a keen supporter or various charities over the past years and has seen her work especially closely with Variety GB The Children's Charity. She completed the London Marathon in April 2011, raising £2000, and ran again in 2013. Since 2009, through various events, she has raised over £8000 for Variety. She has also supported Cancer Research by running the Race for Life. In September 2012 she sky dived with the Red Devils as part of her Miss World Beauty With a Purpose campaign and raised £1000. More recently she has supported; Help for Heroes by completing the Tough Mudder race, The Naked Heart foundation (Natalia Vodianovas Charity) by running the Paris half marathon, and Shelter, by completing Vertical Rush - running up Tower 42 in the heart of The City in London.

Genesis Research Trust

In October 2012, Charlotte was asked by Sir Robert Winston to become an ambassador for The Genesis Research Trust. Genesis Research Trust raises money for the largest UK-based collection of scientists and clinicians who are researching the causes and cures for conditions that affect the health of women and babies. This Trust is uniquely based in the building where the scientists carry out their research at the Wolfson and Weston Research Institute for Family Health, on the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College London (where Charlotte was herself made!)

In September 2013, Charlotte spent 9 days on a cycle expedition around Sri Lanka, with Sir Robert Winston and various other women who have been affected by numerous problems throughout and after pregnancy. They will cycle 390 km over five days for the charity with a pledge to raise £3500 each.

Career

Charlottes modeling career started when she was 19 and has been with her agency, MOT Models, for five years. She has modeled for many brands, including Marks and Spencer's, appeared in various bridal, fitness, and lifestyle magazines, and has been an in store model for Abercrombie and Fitch for four years. She is the face of sports brand Do Unlimited.
