College of Contemporary Health
The College of Contemporary Health (CCH) is an online college based in London. Established in 2013, CCH is dedicated to training the large number of health care professionals needed to attend to health problems related to 21st Century lifestyles. These include obesity, mental illness, dementia, chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome and other similar health concerns.
Contemporary health issues
Such contemporary health problems are debilitating to individuals and also have a significant impact on the social, cultural, economic and financial affairs of those individuals, their families and communities. Indeed, modern maladies such as obesity, diabetes, mental illness, dementia, chronic fatigue, and other health concerns, have tipped the balance of wellbeing in society in the wrong direction.
Mission
CCH was established in the UK and so its initial mission is to make the healthcare profession in the UK the most obesity literate in the world. To do this, CCH draw on the available expertise, goodwill, and passion of stakeholders of the obesity epidemic and other contemporary health issues to significantly reduce the presence and effects of such threats to national wellbeing. Ultimately, the mission of this institution is to reverse and eliminate the contemporary health issues epidemic through the provision of collaboratively developed contemporary healthcare educational programmes.
CCH aim to promote the development of innovative healthcare solutions, and to raise national awareness of the scope and scale of specific contemporary health concerns as it garners a shared sense of responsibility among the stakeholders who are committed to being part of the solution.
Degree validation
The governance of CCH rests with its board of directors. Oversight and direction for academic offerings, policies and approaches is provided by experts in obesity management and education through the members of the Academic Advisory Board (AAB). CCH postgraduate courses are validated by the London South Bank University (LSBU). Students can pursue education with CCH up to Masters degree.
Publications
Several publications were contributed by CCH to scientific journals. So far, the subjects covered include the individual, societal and economical impact of obesity,[1] obesity data collection and organisation,[2] treatment of adolescent obesity,[3] and the impact of obesity on reproductive health.[4]
Future
The main focus of CCH so far has been put on obesity and weight management. Future plans involve addition of courses targeting other contemporary health issues, such as mental health, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
