David F. Levine
David F. Levine is a physical therapy professor, holding the Walter Cline Chair of Excellence in Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.[1][2] His research and publication contributions focus on gait analysis, the use of modalities such as e-stim and therapeutic ultrasound, and veterinary physical therapy, including canine physical therapy.[3][4][5]
Education
Dr. Levine received a B.S. in physical therapy from the University of New England in 1986. He continued his education at Boston University where he received his M.S. in orthopedic physical therapy in 1990. After receiving his M.S., Levine received his PhD from the University of Tennessee in exercise science in 1994.
Professional
He began his professional career as a physical therapist in 1986, and has continued practicing throughout his professional career. In 1990, he accepted a position at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as a professor in the physical therapy department, a position he currently still holds. He is actively involved in the enhancement and betterment of the university.[6] In addition to teaching at UTC, he has held adjunct positions at the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee and NC State since 2001 and 2003 respectively. He currently co-chairs the University of Tennessee's Certificate Program in Canine Rehabilitation.[7][8][9][10] Levine has been an integral part in the development of Canine physical therapy.
He has recently become involved with the TEDx programs. Dr. Levine is an active member on the TED website, engaging in conversations on various TED talks.[11] He is one of the co-chairs of the TEDx conference that took place at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga titled, "Now What?".[12] The TEDx conference took place on October 25, 2014 on the campus of UTC.[13] 12 speakers presented about various topics to an audience of 100 that was selected by a selection committee from a pool of applicants. The talks were streamed online and also in auditoriums on UTC's campus. Dr. Levine played a vital part in the organization and execution of UTC's first TEDx event.[14] With Dr Levine's continued leadership, the TEDxChattanooga organization is in the process of their next event, which is taking place in February 2016.[15]
He has worked with the DogTV television channel in giving special talks about the interaction of how animals can benefit human health.
Dr. Levine has been appointed to the editorial board of PeerJ, which is an award winning biological and medical science journal.[16]
Recently, Dr. Levine has been requested to be an international key note speaker at the Connect Physiotherapy Conference that is hosted by the Australian Physiotherapy Association. The conference will take place from October 3–5 in Australia.[17]
APTA Work
Dr. Levine is active member in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He has written for the APTA Continuing Education section and also the APTA Section on Research. He has assisted in publishing two studies in the Orthopedic section of the Continuing Education for physical therapists. The published studies were Biomechanics of Gait: Hip and Biomechanics of Gait: Knee.[18] In regards to the APTA Section on Research, Dr. Levine was a task force chair in the development of an evidence based practice curriculum guidelines for physical therapy schools around the nation.[19]

Dr. Levine has been author or co-author on over 20 research articles in a variety of peer reviewed journals, including The American Journal of Veterinary Research and Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice. Many of his research articles have been cited by others.[27]
