Deep Pal (born April 16, 1953) is an Indian cinematographer. He is the son of publicist Colin Pal and grand-son of director Niranjan Pal. Pal is known as being one of the pioneers of Steadicam camerawork in India. Pal's first major Steadicam work was in Shiva, which was considered a pathbreaking film on visual technique in Telugu cinema. His later work included Bandit Queen directed by Shekhar Kapur and Dil Se directed by Mani Ratnam.[1]
Education
He has completed his graduation in English Literature from Bombay University. Then he moved to Munich (Germany) where he has done Diploma in Cinematography. Later, he took training in Steadicam, Underwater photography and Sky Diving Photography from United States.

As a Cinematographer
Before cinematography, Pal directed documentary films including Cages (1984) based on prostitution in Falkland Road in Mumbai, and Give us this Day our Daily Lunch (1985) based on the Dabbawala food delivery system in Bombay.[2]
In 1993, he was Director of Photography (DOP) in the Hindi Feature Film Pehla Nasha.
After a long hiatus, on request of filmmaker Srivinay Salian, he agreed to be part of the short film - Stripped, as Cinematographer, along with his wife and assistant Cinematographer, Yardley Pal, who also incidentally made her acting debut in the film.

Workshops
He has been very active in his profession. He always ready to guid and impart knowledge to youth who want to make their career in the Bollywood as Cinematographer & Steadicam Operators.[3]
Being a pioneer of Steadicam in India Mr. Deep Pal have started Workshop on Steadicam with Joinfilms.com. Steadicam operator course[4] is an open and cumulative 10 days Steadicam workshop for all upcoming cinematographers to explore and refine their camera work with knowing Steadicam operations as well. In the duration of 10 days, students will be guided through 7 days classroom program followed by one day shoot of a short student film. The last two days will be utilized to impart the participants with exclusive training in film editing.
