Dere is an Assyrian village located at the side of the Mateena Mountains overlooking the Sapna valley, in the Amedi District of Dohuk province in Iraqi Kurdistan. The village is directly north of the town of The village is known primarily for the historic Mar Odishu Monastery, which was rebuilt recently due to the efforts of Sarkis Aghajan and after being destroyed, along with the entire village, in the Al-Anfal Campaign in 1987.[1]
