Dixmoor race riot
The 1964 Dixmoor race riot occurred between August 15 and 17 in Dixmoor, Illinois. After a woman accused of shoplifting a bottle of gin was wrestled to the ground by the owner of the liquor store, black residents took to the streets in anger and looted the liquor store and burned various nearby buildings.
