Entr'acte Recording Society
Entr'acte Recording Society, is an independent record label, which is also known as Entr'acte Records. It was founded in Chicago in 1974 by John Steven Lasher (born 1943). He produced many recordings for the label, which was later incorporated into Fifth Continent Music Corporation's roster of labels from 1979 onwards. The American-based company was dissolved in 1984, by which time the copyrights were transferred to Fifth Continent Australia Pty Ltd, the new Australian company, which became operational in early 1984.
The label's first release, which featured music composed and conducted by Bernard Herrmann for the Brian De Palma film Sisters, was initially available by mail-order, but later on independently distributed in North America and abroad. Other recordings of film music by Bernard Herrmann, including Battle of Neretva and The Kentuckian soon followed.
Entr'acte's releases also included re-recordings of the 1933 original motion picture score from King Kong by Max Steiner, The Best Years of Our Lives by Hugo Friedhofer and Time After Time by Miklós Rózsa, among others. The label also produced several recordings of chamber music, including works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Miklós Rózsa and Halsey Stevens. Three recordings featuring fortepiano music performed by John Khouri were also released in 1987.
The company will be re-launched in 2017 according to a blog by J Steven Lasher on his Facebook page.
