The European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) is Europe's leading organisation for clinicians and scientists in nephrology, dialysis, renal transplantation and related areas. .

The organisation publishes two scientific journals, NDT - Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation[1] and CKJ - Clinical Kidney Journal,[2] a newsletter, Follow Us,[3] and an online newsletter, Follow Us Flash.[4] It has an educational website, NDT-Educational,[5] and holds an annual congress in a different European city each year.[6]

Membership

Full membership is open to those living in Europe and in countries bordering Europe or the Mediterranean Sea, and Associate membership to those elsewhere. The Junior Membership category allows those who are up to 40 years old to receive the benefits of membership at a reduced rate. In addition, the ERA-EDTA has recently created a Young Nephrologists Platform (YNP),[7] the aim of which is to involve young nephrologists in all the activities of the organisation

Activities

The encouragement of medical education in Europe, and in developing countries throughout the world is one of the key missions of the ERA-EDTA.[8] This is achieved through CME Courses, Compact Primers, Fellowship Programmes and Grants. European Renal Best Practice (ERBP)[9] is the ERA-EDTA advisory board which discusses and defines the future of European nephrology recommendations and guidance. The ERA-EDTA Registry[10] collects and analyses data on renal replacement therapy via the national and regional renal registries in Europe and distributes the resulting information through registry reports presented at ERA-EDTA Annual Congresses, publications in nephrology journals and via the ERA-EDTA website.

The ERA-EDTA actively promotes research through its Research Programme,[11] its Fellowship Programme[12] and its Scientific Working Groups:[13] EUropean REnal and CArdiovascular Medicine Working Group (EURECA-m),[14] ERA-EDTA Immunonephrology Working Group,[15] Working Group on Inherited Kidney Disorders (WGIKD),[16] European Dialysis Working Group (EUDIAL),[17] Developing Education Science and Care for Renal Transplantation in European States Working Group (DESCARTES),[18] CKD-MBD Working Group,[19] Diabesity Working Group, and European Renal Nutrition Working Group. It also endorses the European Uremic Toxin working group of the ESAO (EUTox),[20] and the EuroPD.[21]
