Eye Emma Jedi (sometimes styled EYE EMMA JEDI, in all caps; the name is a pun on "I am a Jedi" ("Jedi" is a word taken from the Star Wars movies, but apart from the name the band has no relation to that franchise)) is an indie rock band based in Oslo, Norway. The band consists of Norwegians Alexander Pavelich (lead vocals, guitar), Andrew Murray (guitar, backing vocals), Andreas Reiten Westhagen (drums) and Britons Joe Wills (guitar, keyboard) and Dan Croll (bass guitar). The band is signed to the Norwegian label The Toothfairy Label.
In January 2016 the band announced via their Spotify that they have formed a new band, Lovespeake, and that there "won't be much news from EEJ" moving forwards. This suggests that Eye Emma Jedi, as a project, is currently suspended.
Releases
The band met during studies at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, and released their first single Crucified in November 2010. Crucified was followed up by Lights in early 2011. Both of these singles were A-listed or B-listed on the Norwegian radio channel NRK P3. Their third single, Brother, was released late 2011.
After touring Norway extensively, the band decided to release an EP in 2012 before a tour of Germany. The band released their 4th single Sin, which also got playlisted on P3.
The debut album was confirmed via the band's soundcloud [1] along with the release of a new single, "Places". The band spent 100 days in Spain in the small village of Monda in Andalucia. The band decided to release an EP instead, putting the album on hold. 'Places' was playlisted on NRK P3 in 2013 and '88 was playlisted in October 2013. Thus making Eye Emma Jedi the only band to have had 6 out of 6 singles playlisted (without having release an album).
Live Performances
The band's first live performance was during the Malakoff Rockfestival in Alexander Pavelich's hometown Nordfjordeid on 22 July 2011. Shortly afterwards it was announced that they would also appear at Øyafestivalen,[2] one of the biggest festivals in Norway. The following fall the band did several live performances in cities across Norway, including Stavanger, Bergen and Oslo. On 1 March 2012 the band performed its first UK gig, a free concert in Liverpool with support from The Kabeedies and local band Ninetails
