Ezra Rumstick
Ezra Rumstick is a fictional character created by James L. Nelson for his Revolution at Sea Saga. He is the best friend of Isaac Biddlecomb and a fierce revolutionary. He first appears in By Force of Arms when Isaac comes across him tar and feathering, not to mention burning, a mannequin dressed like a British soldier. He and Isaac are captured soon after by the British police and face death by hanging. But they escape, and eventually are pressed into labour on board the H.M.S. Icarus (See By Force of Arms).
Character description
Rumstick is described in By Force of Arms as a great, "jolly bear of a man." He is very large and very strong, and shows it in the first Revolution book when he picks up the Icarus' boatswain's mate and tosses him overboard after seeing how he brutalises the crew members.
Rumstick once mentioned his mother and that she hadn't failed in her duties to read him the Bible, but no other mention is made of her, or the rest of his family. He met Isaac Biddlecomb in 1764 when he signed aboard William Stanton's ship the Providence, on which Isaac had been working for a year, following the death of his father. (See Captain Isaac Biddlecomb)
Ezra Rumstick has a quick temper and a strong sense of justice. He is one of the biggest American revolutionaries, and always wants to be in the middle of the action, especially when it involves fighting off British soldiers. He is very disappointed in The Continental Risque when he is sent to help Lieutenant Roger Tottenhill aboard the Charlemagne, thus missing all the action involved in being on the Bahamian schooner with Isaac.
