Faeryville is a 2015 Singapore independent film written and directed by cult director Tzang Merwyn Tong. The coming-of-age dystopian film stars Lyon Sim, Aaron Samuel Yong, Tanya Graham and Kris Moller. Faeryville tells the story of a group of college misfits who decide to fight the ruling fraternities, turning youthful idealism into all-out anarchy. Faeryville is Singapore's first dystopian teen movie.[2]

The film features an original music score by Alex Oh, and music by Singapore indie bands, including The Great Spy Experiment, post-rock band In Each Hand a Cutlass, Bob Kamal and ANECHOIS.[3]

The film made its world premiere to rousing reception in Los Angeles, California, represented by US distributor Eleven Arts, followed by a limited theatrical release in Singapore.[4][5] It was the Closing Night Film of the Brisbane Festival 2015 [6] and won the Award for Best Original Story at the FLIXX Festival,[7] in Scott Valley, United States.

Plot

Set in an alternate universe, in a college called Faeryville, a group of teenage misfits struggle to find themselves and make sense of their ‘teenhood’. They decide that there is no reason in trying to fit-in, and fashioned themselves as pranksters, calling themselves The Nobodies. Enter Laer, a new transfer student who joins The Nobodies, inspiring them to move from stink bombs to homemade bombs. Youthful idealism soon becomes an excuse for all-out anarchy.[8]

Cast

Production

The film took the director 8 years, 14 script rewrites and 3 meltdowns to complete.[9][10]
