The Fat Cat Brewery is a brewery located at the Fat Cat Brewery Tap, Lawson Road, Norwich in the English county of Norfolk. The brewery is owned by Colin Keatley landlord of the Fat Cat public house twice winner of the CAMRA National Pub of the Year.[1]
History
In 2004, Keatley acquired the 1970s built Wherry public house [2] with the ultimate aim of creating a brewery on the premises. After renaming the pub The Shed [3] and later the Cider Shed [4] following a legal dispute. The brewery was opened in September 2005 by Roger Protz editor of the Good Beer Guide. Today 2011, the brewery supplies beer under the guidance of former Woodforde's brewer Ray Ashworth to its sister-pubs the Fat Cat and the Fat Cat and Canary, and also to other wholesale and retail outlets.[1]
Fat Cat beers
The following beers are available throughout the year
- Fat Cat Bitter 3.8% a pale gold session ale.
- Fat Cat Honey 4.3% golden-coloured ale flavoured with honey, though still with a bitter finish.
- Fat Cat Cougar 4.7% the breweries palest beer, jam-packed with American hops - long-lasting citrus bitterness.
- Fat Cat Wild Cat 5.0% a strong pale ale, abundantly late-hopped for a full flavour with long dry finish.
- Fat Cat Marmalade 5.5% full-bodied copper coloured ale - the name hints at the burnt-orange flavours from aromatic malts and hops.
- Fat Cat Stout 4.6% deep, dark full-flavoured beer.
Seasonal ales
- Fat Cat Top Cat 4.8% this is a well-balanced beer, with the flavour emphasis on the Marris Otter barley malt. A summer brew.
- Fat Cat Porter 4.9% porter type dark ale
- Fat Cat Meow Mild 4.3% a ruby-coloured mild ale.
- Fat Cat Hell Cat 4.1% the most recent Fat Cat beer, continuing the experiment with American hops, but with a gentler, fuller flavour.
