Gabe Nelson
Gabriel "Gabe" Nelson is an American rock musician from Sacramento, California, best known as the bassist for the alternative rock band Cake, and songwriter/vocalist of the band Bellygunner. With Cake, Nelson replaced the original bassist, Shon Meckfessel, who left Cake to attend college, soon after the band was formed.[1] However, Nelson left the band himself before the release of their first album, Motorcade of Generosity, which lists Victor Damiani as bassist. Damiani stayed with Cake until after the release of their second album, Fashion Nugget. After this, Damiani left the band and Nelson re-joined. He has been their bassist since then, playing on their four subsequent studio albums.
Nelson is usually seen playing a vintage Fender Precision Bass, featuring a cut down pickguard and re-painted body. Gabe Nelson attended Sacramento Sr. High School in Sacramento, California. When not playing with Cake, Gabe Nelson teaches bass and guitar at Kline Music in his hometown of Sacramento.

During his hiatus from Cake, after recording half the Motorcade album, Gabe was in a trio called Caboose, with John Taylor and Chris Woodhouse. They released an album on vinyl and finished recording but never released the second. Victor left Cake, whose management called, asking if he could start on the night Cake opened for No Doubt at Arco. When Gabe left Cake, he had already been playing in his own band, Bellygunner. He recorded the debut album himself, on all but drums and a few credited parts. He has been working on new material recently, and the interested bystander must stand and watch for furthermore.
