Game of Emperors is a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game (MMORTS) developed by the Bulgarian game production company Imperia Online Ltd. It is released on February 2016 and it has been translated into 30 languages. Game of Emperors is a medieval MMORTS game with deep gameplay. Game of Emperors is a browser game, it can be played in Facebook, Odnoklassniki, or on mobile in the instant messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP) app Viber under the name Viber Emperors. The game has also Viber public chat and its own sticker pack. Game of Emperors is greenlit by the world’s largest online platform Steam.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Gameplay

Game of Emperors is set in the Medieval times. The players develop their own cities by constructing economic and military buildings, researching in the University in the Capital and expanding their army, which will fight in the battles. Everyone is trying to keep the Happiness at maximum levels, so that they don’t lose or win population to migration. The players also can communicate with each other using in-game messages, and may create or join alliances.[7]

Starting a game

Players must register at gameofemperors.com free of charge to join the game, providing a username, an e-mail address and creating a password, or using a social network account. After logging in, the players follow a tutorial that guides them through various aspects of the game and provides rewards for successful completion. After the tutorial, missions start appearing for the players.

Provinces

The players can have more provinces by annexing on the Imperial Map. To annex, they need a vacant level of Centralization (each level allows one annexed province) and a victory over the independent province. The points, the players get for annexing a province, correspond to the buildings in the new province.[8]

Population

The population in Game of Emperors can grow with Мedicine and/or Premium activation. If there are losses due to lack of Farms, raising a level of Farms will decrease these losses and will respectively increase the net growth. Not maintaining high Happiness means, losses of population to migration. The lower the average Happiness, the bigger the chance to lose more people. The population gathered upon having already reached the population limit allowed by the current level of Houses is the homeless population. Homeless population growth is twice lower. It can be recruited for army, but cannot be hired and, thus, doesn't produce resources. To make use of it, the players should build enough levels of Houses. When the population number reaches 200 000 no more homeless population can be gathered.

Resources

Resources are needed for developing Provinces and training units. Three of them – Wood, Iron and Stone – are produced by resource-generating buildings: Lumber mill, Iron mine and Stone quarry. The resource output can be increased by upgrading the three resource-generating structures, so that new work vacancies are created and, thus, the possibility for increased production. The fourth main resource is Gold. It is used for almost any type of research, military training and building development. It is also the universal currency for buying and selling all three other types of resources. Gold is gathered through taxes, selling resources on the Marketplace, fortress sieges, deposit interests, and as one of the possible rewards from the various caskets awarded in the game. There are also the so-called 'Special resources' that can be found throughout the realm. There are more than 50 types of special resources and their main purpose is granting bonuses to various in-game statistics like resource production, military units, experience gain, etc.[9]

7 wonders of the realm

There are 7 special buildings which can be built by players who have reached the 25th level of Architecture.

Only the highest levels of these buildings in the whole realm are considered wonders and appear on the Global map near their owners‘ Empires.

Each wonder awards a special bonus for the owner and all his allies, as below:

The Mystical Obelisk: 5 daily Happiness bonus

The Fire Summit: 5 points to Happiness limit

The Heavens Tower: -10% Research Times

The Sun Pyramids: –10% construction time

The Palace of Dawn: 10% bonus to Farm effect

The General: –10% to army training time

The Great Horseman – 10% bonus to army travelling time

A player can build levels of more than one special building but he can own only one wonder, meaning that if he reaches the highest level in the realm of more than one special building, he must choose which one of them is to be a wonder and give a bonus.[10]

Battles

Game of Emperors's battle system is complex, despite being built with five main types of military units only. The five main categories of units are Swordsmen, Spearmen, Archers, Cavalry and Siege Engines. Each battle's outcome is determined automatically by the impact and the armies cannot be controlled directly. There are three types of attacks: Field Battle, Fortress Siege and Pillage. The first one sends the troops to fight only with the opponent's field army, without sieging the Fortress or pillaging the civil population. The only profit for the attacker are military points for slashing enemy units and honor points. Fortress siege is conducted after a successful Field battle for the attacker. A successful Fortress siege loots resources. If the player chooses Pillage, their troops engage the opponent's civil population. Gold is earned for every killed villager. It’s punished with Honor drop.[11]
