George A. Baer

George A. Baer (April 14, 1903 – July 24, 1994) was a German/Swiss/American bookbinder. He specialized in fine bindings, including gold inlays. Much of his work involved the restoration of old and rare books for both private customers and numerous rare book libraries around the world. His well-established reputation in this field led to an invitation to help restore the water damaged books in the Florence library caused by the 1966 Flood of the Arno River.

Biography

George Baer was born as Adolf George Baer to German parents in Hoboken NJ. After a short stay in the United States, they decided to return to Germany with young Adolf, moving to Wiesbaden, where Adolf's mother's family resided.
