The Chiriquí quail-dove or rufous-breasted quail-dove (Zentrygon chiriquensis) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae found in Costa Rica and Panama. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
Description
The Chiriquí quail-dove measures 28–30 cm (11–12 in) long.[2][3] Identifying marks are its grey crown and nape, rufous breast, and black moustachial stripe. The upperparts are maroon to rufous. The eye is red. Legs and feet are reddish. The similar and sympatric buff-fronted quail-dove is distinguished by its greyish breast, green nape patch and buffy forehead.
Habits
The Chiriquí quail-dove inhabits mid-elevation forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. Like most quail-doves, it is shy bird and is more often heard than seen.[4]
The call is a loud whoooo-ooooh.[3]
