History
Separated from the Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, founded in 1957, The Golestan University is a major institute of higher education located in Gorgan, a large city bordering the Caspian Sea, in the province of Golestan, in north-eastern Iran. The Golestan University is among public Universities in Iran. like other public Universities in the country, acceptance to this University is highly competitive and requires scoring among the top 3% of students in the Nationwide University Entrance Exams. Other scientific and cultural activities of the Golestan University include science and technology park, and students growth center that have contributed a lot to the betterment of the level of scientific research in Gorgan, Golestan province, Iran. There is a wide range of courses offered in the faculties of Science, Engineering and Humanities.
With more than 120 academic staff, four faculties and various research centers,there are nearly 4000 students in 72 fields of study, including undergraduate, postgraduate and research scholars leading to B.Sc., B.Eng., M.Sc., B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. The university is spread over three campuses. The University of Golestan was separated from the Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, one of the oldest and most renowned established Universities of Iran in the field of natural sciences, and started its academic activities since 2008.
