HMS Thais (1806)

HMS Thais was a 18-gun sloop built for the Royal Navy during the 1800s. She was lost in 1818.[1]

From 3 April 1811 to January 1814 she was captained by Captain Edward Scobell.[1] She set sail for the West Coast of Africa in order to take part in police actions against the slave trade. On 31 March she captured the U.S. brig the Rambler. Then in May 1813 the HMS Thais was involved in apprehending the Juan a ship sailing near the Rio Pongo which was then taken to Sierra Leone.[1] However the legality of the action was successfully contested and Scobell resigned his commission in January 1814.[1]

She subsequently sailed to provide convoy protection for ships sailing to the West Indies and for East Indiamen sailing to China.[1]
