Harry Gouvas
Harry Gouvas (Greek name-Greek alphabet: Χαράλαμπος Γκούβας) born in Arta Greece 1956) is a Greek Orthopedic Surgeon, traumatologist,[1] as well a writer of 24 books, an art collector, and founder of the so-called Museum of Arts and Sciences of Epirus Greece.
Biography
He has born in Arta Greece in 1956 and lived in Chalandri Athens (1968-1974). He studied Medicine in Athens University (1975-1981) and specialized in Orthopedics Surgery and Traumatology in the Accidents Hospital (KAT) Kifissia Athens. In 1989 he had his postgraduate study in Microsurgery of the Hand, and worked in the Clinic of Hand Surgery in KAT Hospital. In the same year 1989 he released his Doctoral Thesis in Athens University and took his Doctoral Thesis Diploma with 10/10 degree. From 1990 he relocated to Preveza city Greece and works as a free orthopedic doctor until today in his private clinic. Moreover, Dr. Harry Gouvas is an author of 24 books (see below) and also an art and history collector. So, he founded the so-called Museum of Arts and Sciences of Epirus Greece, started on September 2, 2013 anniversary of the Naval Battle of Actium.,[2]
Notable Medical Action
Moreover, the medical action and writing, Dr. Harry Gouvas was pioneer in these medical fields:
- In year 1985 he designed with the software engineer Nikos Polyzos, the first medical software for general use in Europe, released by the trade name OSTOUN,[3]
- In year 1989 he discovered, worldwide, the method of measurement of the levels of antibiotics in human bone tissue. This was the name of his doctoral thesis, presented in the International Congress of Infectious diseases in Montreal Canada, July 1990.[4]
- In year 1990 he improved the open method of operation for Carpal tunnel syndrome, making it more safe.[5]
- In year 1992 he designed with the software engineer Chris Karatzoglou, the medical software "OSTOUN-3-TUMOR", software of Artificial intelligence, for the differential diagnosis of bone tumors, by computer. It has performed in the 4th International Congress for musculoskeletal tumors, in Kifissia Athens 1991.,[6]
- From year 1997 he is a pioneer user of Sodium Hyaluronate intraarticular injections in Orthopedics, for the treatment of Osteoarthritis.[7] He was the first used Sodium Hyaluronate injections in small joints as well in tendons, so became first single statistically user of Sodium Hyaluronate in Greece., .[8][9][10][11]
- In year 2014 became second in Greece – after Dr. Athanassios Giannakis - performed successfully the operation of stenosing tendonosynovitis, without incision, just with a special needle Size 1,20X40mm (=18GX1,5’’).[12]
