Hassan Niknafs
Hassan Niknafs is the current president (rector) of Khazar University in Baku, Azerbaijan.[1]
Education
He finished his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering 1976 at Pahlavi University (now Shiraz University) in Shiraz, Iran, then continued his education at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, USA, receiving a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1979. In 1994 he completed a Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering (With Emphasis on Algorithm Development for Highly Convective Flow Fields related to Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamic Applications) at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.
Positions held
From 1979 to 1985, he was a project engineer for National Iranian Oil Company. In 1986–1988, he worked as a teaching assistant at Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Akron. Then in 1988 he became a research and development engineer for Saint-Gobain NorPro Corporation, previously known as the Norton Chemical Process Products Corporation in Stow, OH. From 2001 to 2012, he taught Applied Math courses at the University of Akron.[2] Then he became Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Khazar University. In 2015 he was appointed president of Khazar University.
Inventions
He holds a total of thirteen U.S. and International patents.[3][4] These patents are related to:
- Heat transfer applications for energy savings in Regenerative Thermal Oxidizing units for abatement of the Hazardous Volatile Organic Compounds.
- Energy Storage Systems for Solar Energy Applications
- Mass transfer applications for improving efficiency or increasing the capacity of the absorption towers such as Sulfuric acid production plants.
- Dehydrogenation reactors in order to prolong catalyst life by means of stabilizing temperature fluctuations within the catalyst bed.
