Hauge Church (Norwegian: Hauge kyrkje) is a parish church in Lærdal Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located in the village of Lærdalsøyri. The church is part of the Hauge parish in the Indre Sogn deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church, which has about 500 seats, was built in 1869. The architect Christian Christie made the designs for the building. It was consecrated on 6 May 1869 by Bishop Peter Hersleb Graah Birkeland. The church is the only church in the county with two towers. The towers sit on either side of the main entrance to the church and it gives the church an unusually monumental character.[1][2][3]
Hauge Church is named after the Hauge farm where the previous Hauge church was located. The farm sits about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) southeast of Lærdalsøyri. In the 1860s when planning was underway for the new church, it was decided to move it to Lærdalsøyri which was quickly growing into a large village. The name Hauge was kept even though the church was no longer in Hauge.[3]
