Heliotrygon gomesi, the Gomes's round ray or China ray, is a freshwater stingray species native to Brazil, the type species of its genus. Some of the features of Heliotrygon include its disc proportions (a disc that is very circular and anteriorly convex), the extreme subdivision of its suborbital canal, a triangular pelvic girdle, a reduced caudal sting, a basibranchial copula with a thin and acute anterior extension, as well as precerebral and frontoparietal fontanellae of approximately equal width.[1][2]

Description

The ray can has a unique dorsal color pattern, made up by a uniform gray to light brown colour. This species differs from H. rosai by showing a slender tail width at its base, a slightly larger preorbital snout length, and a proportionally smaller pelvic inner length. It shows angular cartilages.[1]
