Hyaenodonta (sometimes referred as "Hyaenodontida"[1]) is an extinct order of hypercarnivorous eutherian mammals.[2] Originally they were classified along with the oxyaenids as part of Creodonta,[3] but that taxon has since been established to be a polyphyletic group, and hyaenodonts are not related to oxyaenids. Hyaenodonts may have evolved as an originally endemic African group in the Paleocene.[4]
