"I'll Be There" is a song written and originally recorded by Bobby Darin in 1960. It was first released as B-side to his single "Bill Bailey" (ATCO 6167).[2] As such it entered the Billboard charts on September 11, 1960 and reached position 79.[3]
Cover versions
Invariably used as the epilogue song at The Cavern Club, it became a Canadian number one hit for one of its bands, Gerry and the Pacemakers (The US and UK singles were different recordings).
Elvis Presley recorded a cover version in early 1969. The song was released in April 1970 as the first track on side two of Elvis' RCA Victor LP Let's Be Friends. As a break from Elvis' early rock-style music and his long stint recording pop film soundtracks, the song features many big band qualities and an extended Jazzy instrumental section. The track runs for 2 minutes and 21 seconds.
Other recordings of the song were made by Cissy Houston, for a 1970 single, and Cass Elliot, on her album Cass Elliot (1972). It was also sung by Daveigh Chase in an episode of the television series Big Love entitled "D.I.V.O.R.C.E." Chase's character Rhonda Volmer sings the song while performing a striptease to it at a club.
