Ille-sur-Têt XIII are a French Rugby League club based in Ille-sur-Têt, Pyrénées Orientales in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The club plays in the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional League in the French National Division 2. Founded in 1945 they play their home games at the Stade Jean Galia

History

Ille-sur-Tet XIII were founded in 1945 by Henri Rous a local businessman. Ille-sur-Tet was the birthplace of legendary French rugby league pioneer Jean Galia, so there was always going to be a rugby league presence in the town. During the clubs formative years the local rugby union club, U.S. Illois, did try on a number of occasions to stop the club from starting up and deny them access to the towns venues, but they failed. In 1955 the club won the regional Rousillon League beating Caramany XIII. They once again won the Rousillon League in 59/60 beating Le Soler XIII in the final played in Elne by a score of 10-8. The following season brought yet more success as they reached the 2nd Division title final (nowadays called the National Division 1 and were victorious over ASPTT Marseille 10-8 in Nimes. The Rousillon League was won again in 61/62 this time after beating new club SM Pia XIII 11-7. Season 62/63 brought down the curtain of final appearances which would last for over three decades when they reached the 2nd Division final for a second time but went down 5-10 against Le Pontet XIII in a game played at the Stade Albert Domec in Carcassonne It would be season 94/95 before the Ille XIII would reach another final but during this period their juniors were crowned champions in 1967 and 1992 and lifted the cup in 1994. The first team, with a host of their successful junior players in their ranks reached the Federal Division (the 4th tier National Division 2) final but were beaten by AS Clairac XIII 12-20. In 1995 Australian Klaus Perksvic became the clubs first overseas player to turn out for them, Perksvic had previously played for South Sydney Rabbitohs, Limoux Grizzlies, SM Pia XIII and XIII Catalan all of which were top tier clubs. Another Federal Division runners-up spot befell the club in 98/99 this time going down to Montpellier Red Devils 15-30 in front of a crowd of 1,500. Finals defeats continued for the next couple of seasons with a Coupe Falcou loss against Sainte-Livrade XIII in 2000 by 4-8 and after promotion in 2000, defeat in 2001 against Homps Minervois XIII 5-12 at the Stade Jean-Laffon in Perpignan in the National 2 (now called the National Division 1, 3rd tier) this despite being 5-0 up at half-time. Back in season 99/2000 as a 4th tier club they were drawn at home against top flight side Lezignan Sangliers in the Lord Derby Cup and in front of a record crowd of 2,500 they led 8-6 at half-time. By the end of the game they had gone down valiantly by 14-34. Season 2001/02 brought another National Division 1 final appearance but unlike recent results this time the club won and lifted only their second ever trophy their first for 41 years. In the final they beat Le Barcares XIII 20-6. After a league re-structure in 2008 the club opted to drop down to the 4th tier regional National Division 2 competition.[1] In season 2009/10 they reached the Languedoc-Rousillon regional National Division 2 league final but were beaten by Le Soler XIII 7-38[2]
