John MacKenzie Thompson (born March 22, 1924) was a provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1975 to 1986.
Political career
Thompson ran for a seat in the 1975 Alberta general election. He won the electoral district of Cardston to pick it up for the governing Progressive Conservative party.[2] Thompson ran for a second term in office in the 1979 Alberta general election. The race in that district was hotly contested with challenging Social Credit candidate Broyce Jacobs nearly defeating him.[3] Thompson ran for a third term in office in the 1982 Alberta general election. He improved his vote margin to win another hotly contested race, this time the challenging candidate was Steve Pinchak of the Western Canada Concept.[4] Thompson did not run for a fourth term and retired at dissolution of the legislature in 1986.
