Jon Andrus

Jon Andrus, an American physician, epidemiologist and immunization specialist,[1] is Deputy Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).[2]

Education and career

Andrus studied at the Stanford University]] (Biologic Science), UC Davis School of Medicine and University of California, San Francisco (Family Practice). He is a graduate of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Epidemic Intelligence Service and Preventive Medicine Residency.[3]

He also directs the George Washington University’s Global Health MPH Program and holds adjunct faculty appointments at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He published several scientific articles in the areas of vaccines, immunization, and control of vaccine-preventable diseases.[4] He received the Distinguished Service Medal, the highest award of United States Public Health Service, for leadership in polio eradication in South-East Asia.[5]

As PAHO’s former Deputy Director he oversaw the areas of planning and budgeting, external relations, knowledge management and communications. PAHO is the world's oldest international public health agency and serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization.[6]
