Joseph Joel Hammond (1886 – 22 September 1918) was a pioneering New Zealand aviator.[1] On 18 April 1911 he was the first pilot to fly at the site of what would become Sydney Airport.[2] On 17 January 1914 at Epsom showgrounds he took New Zealand's first military plane, a Blériot XI-2, for its first flight.[3]
