Joy Mountford is an internationally recognized leader in the field of computer-human interactions. From 1986 to 1994 she was Head of the Human Interface Group at Apple Computer. In 2012, Mountford won the 2012 Lifetime Practice Award from SIGCHI[1]
Career
Mountford beginning her career as a designer at Honeywell and a project leader in the Interface Research Group at Microelectronics Computer Consortium (MCC).
Since then she has led teams designing and developing a wide variety of computer systems. She was a VP of User Experience Design at Yahoo!, a VP of Digital User Experience and Design at Barnes and Noble and an Osher Fellow at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, CA. She was a senior project lead at Interval Research, and continues to consult to a variety of companies and to present innovative talks world-wide. Most of her recent work specializes in area of data visualization. Her impact continues through the International Design Expo, which she created over 20 years ago to challenge the next generation of interdisciplinary graduates. This has had a huge impact on creating the next generation of interdisciplinary trained design innovators in both education and industry.
She worked with Akamai Technologies from March 2012 to July 2015.[2] She currently is the Interface Practice Lead in the Advanced UX team at Ford Smart Mobility in Palo Alto, California.
