Julius Long (born 28 May 1977, Romulus, Michigan, USA) is a professional boxer who resides in Auckland, New Zealand. Long is a current Interim WBA Oceania Heavyweight Champion.[1] Long trains New Zealand boxer Conrad Lam and outside the ring, he is a Professional chef in a restaurant.[2]
Move to New Zealand
In 2013, Duco Events flew Long to New Zealand to help train David Tua in his bout against Alexander Ustinov. Long decided to move to New Zealand Permanently.[3]
WBF World Title Challenge
In February 2016, Long challenged for the vacant WBF World Heavyweight title against Peter Graham. Due to an accidental head clash, Graham received a cut early in the fight. Later in the fight, Long open the cut even more causing the doctor to stop the fight. The fight went to scorecards with Graham winning the fight by points on a Technical Decision.[4]
Later in a year, Long called for a rematch, however due to injury Graham couldn't compete. Long was then scheduled to fright for the Interim WBF World Heavyweight title, the bout was instead change to be for the Interim WBA Oceania title against Bowie Tupou. Long won the bout by split decision.[5]
