K. Shankar was a veteran film editor and director, born on Mar 17, 1926 in Malabar (now Kerala, in India). He directed more than 80 films in all the South Indian languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada as well as in Hindi.
Film career
Shankar started his film career as an editor at the popular AVM studios, before moving into film direction. His first directorial was a Sinhalese movie, "Doctor."[2] He has directed three Chief Ministers MGR ("Adimaipen" and "Kudiyiruntha Koil"); N.T. Rama Rao ("Bhookailash") and Jayalalithaa ("Gowri Kalyanam").
On later years, he directed devotional films such as "Thai Mookambigai" and "Varuvan Vadivelan."[3] He got the State Government's Raja Sandow award from Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Death
Shankar died due to heart attack at his residence on Mar 5 2006 at around at 7 pm.[1] He was 80 years of age and is survived by his wife and six children.
