KCHJ-FM (92.1 FM, "El Gallito") is a commercial radio station that broadcasts a ranchera format and is owned by Lotus Communications Corporation.^[2] The station is licensed to serve the community of Bakersfield, California.

History

The station went on the air as KIWI with classical music on 1963-06-24.

On January 21, 2003, the station changed its call sign to KPSL.^[3]

On September 8, 2011, KPSL-FM and KVMX swapped frequencies with the station now being branded as "The New 92-1 Max-FM".^[4]

On May 6, 2013 KVMX changed their format to country, branded as "KiX 92.1".^[5]

On July 1, 2016 KVMX changed their format to Ranchera music, branded as "El Gallito", simulcasting KCHJ 1010 AM under new KCHJ-FM calls.^[6]

Programming

Until July 1, 2016, the weekday programming on this station previously included the syndicated Bobby Bones Show on mornings, Anne Kelly on mid days. Rachel Legan was on afternoons. Weekends also featured "The Bobby Bones Country Top 30 Countdown on Sunday Morning." Kix Brooks "American Country Countdown" was on Sunday evenings
