Karaiyalar

Karaiyalar or Parvatharajakulam is a caste found in the parts of Tamil Nadu and other parts of Sri Lanka (Jaffna kingdom). Traditionally they were the warrior class, mercenaries, seafaring community and involved in coastal commercial activities. They use various surnames such as Nilakkilar.
