Kartarpur (Urdu: کرتارپور) is located in tehsil Shakargarh, Narowal District, Punjab, Pakistan.

Ethnic group

The population Punjabi speaking Punjabi, Urdu and educated also speak English. The ethnic groups include Jats and Rajputs.

Religion

The population is predominantly Muslim. There are several mosques in the town. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the minority Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India while many Muslims refugees from India settled down in Kartarpur.

History

Kartarpur was established by Guru Nanak Dev ji in 1522,[1] and is the location of Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, the first Gurdwara ever built, where Guru Nanak is said to have died.

Kartarpur is located at 32°5′13″N 75°1′0″E / 32.08694°N 75.01667°E / 32.08694; 75.01667. It is located in Narowal District, Punjab, Pakistan. It has an average elevation of 155 metres (511 feet).
