Kaugachhi is a census town in Barrackpore I CD Block in Barrackpore subdivision[1] in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Jagatdal police station serves this town.

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Kaugachhi had a total population of 17,001, of which 8,612 (51%) were males and 8,389 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 1,379. The total number of literates in Kaugachhi was 13,833 (88.55 % of the population over 6 years).[2]

As of 2001 India census,[3] Kaugachhi had a population of 13,904. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kaugachhi has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 67%. In Kaugachhi, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Healthcare

North 24 Parganas district has been identified as one of the areas where ground water is affected by arsenic contamination.[4]
